Zoe's baptism

Zoe's baptism was a bittersweet event. On the one hand, baptisms should be happy events because the recipient is cleansed. In the case of babies and children, it's even more precious. However, Zoe's situation is different because her mother is still missing. It was the Johnsons who suggested Zoe be baptized, and they arranged the ceremony in Dana Robertson's absence. Zoe seems to be happy with the Johnsons so far, but we all wish that her real mother will return one day soon.

March Madness

I've noticed this week that the town's attention has shifted from the mysterious disappearances to the basketball games known as March Madness. It's good for us to have something else to focus on. People are finally in a happier mood, and they aren't afraid all the time. I hope it lasts.

How soon we forget

Attendance at yesterday's service dropped off significantly from previous weeks, and I didn't get the usual barrage of questions about the end of the world like I had been getting. Either people are seeking answers elsewhere or they're losing their fear. I expected it to happen eventually, but not this quickly. After all, we still haven't caught the parties responsible for recent events, and we've found no sign of the missing women. On the one hand, I don't want people to let their guards down because there is still a real danger out there, but on the other hand, I don't want everyone to live in fear all the time either.

Fear brings out the crowds

A large audience attended service today. Perhaps it's all the uncertainty over what has been happening since New Year's Eve, and the fact that there are still so many unanswered questions. From what I gathered from the concerned questions I received afterwards, many people are worried about the end of the world or what will happen to their own souls if they should pass on soon. There's nothing like the fear of death to prod people look to the Lord. I just wish that people would be more interested under other circumstances, but it's never to late to be saved.
